Layette program

Blanket Makers

Wrap a baby in a handmade “gift of love.” Knit or crochet a handmade blanket measuring 36” x 36”. Yarn can be picked up at the CCS office.

Time commitment: Whenever it works for you!

Blanket Buddies

Be a liaison with one of our wonderful blanket makers. Bring yarn to volunteers and pick up their beautiful blankets!

Time commitment: Intermittent depending on when your buddy finishes a blanket and needs more yarn.

Include a prayer with the blankets we provide. Tie miraculous medals onto the layette prayer cards.

Layette Delivery

Help distribute layettes to families in need and see the impact our welcome kits have on the community. Pick up layettes at the CCS office and deliver to a local agency.

Time commitment: Typically the first week in September, November, January, March and May.

Diaper Collating

Keep babies clean, dry, and happy. Repackage diapers for inclusion in the layettes.

Time commitment: Whenever you have time.

Student Success program


Become a Christ Child tutor and make a difference in the life of a young student. Provide reading instruction at Washington Jesuit Academy, Sacred Heart, St. Anthony’s, Washington School for Girls or San Miguel. Materials and training provided.

Time commitment: One morning or afternoon “shift” per week from end of September to May.

Book Bunch at Family Place

Help introduce the joy of books to babies and toddlers at the Family Place! Volunteers read books to mothers and babies and plan fun sensory, educational, and crafty activities.

Time commitment: We have three sessions per year on Wednesday mornings from 10am-12pm in the months of October, January, and March.

Don Bosco Cristo Rey Opportunities

Financial Aid Night
Help students complete FAFSA forms at financial aid night for seniors.
Time commitment: October 2nd at 4:30pm 

Pizza, Pen and Paper
Help a student prepare for college by helping them polish off their college essays/personal statements.
Time commitment: Wednesday, October 16th at 8am 

Admission Interviews
Help facilitate admission interviews for new students.
Time commitment: January 25th, February 22nd, March 28th, and April 25th at 9am 

Academic Support
Provide students with afterschool academic support.
Time commitment: Tuesdays-Friday starting second week of September, 3:30-4:30pm

Girls on the Rise program

Rebel Girls Book Club

Enjoy books and lively discussion on women of significance of today and yesterday with the Girls on the Rise at the Merrick Center. Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls books and lesson plans provided. Volunteers bring materials for activities and a snack.

Time commitment: Specific Wednesdays from September-May from 12:30pm-2:30pm.

Running Buddies

Be a running buddy at the Girls on the Run-DC 5K! Inspire girls to recognize their inner strength as you encourage and support her through her first 5K!

Time commitment: Sunday, November 24th at Anacostia Park.

Girls Summit

Help kick off the school year with Girls Summit where girls and their parents learn new skills, tools and resources to help them succeed during the academic year.

Time commitment: Saturday, October 26th from 9am-2pm.

Host a Drive

Host a drive at your parish, workplace, or school to collect materials needed for our programs. We are always in need of drives for diapers, books, hygiene products, healthy snacks, or winter accessories. Signage and flyers will be provided.

Time commitment: When the timing works!

CCS Main Office

Help out with administrative tasks at the CCS office! We always need people to help us with mailings – membership mailing, invitations to events and annual giving appeals.

Time commitment: A few hours as opportunities arise throughout the year.

Opportunity Shop

Volunteer at our upscale consignment shop in Georgetown! Volunteers are needed for sales, stocking, merchandising, and assisting with consignment appointments.

Time commitment: Morning or afternoon shifts once per week – approximately 4 hours per shift.

Merrick Center

Beautification Day

Join your fellow CCS members, friends and family in this Chapter-wide cleanup of the Merrick Center. We will be working in the garden and cleaning up our indoor space.

Time commitment: Saturday, November 2nd from 9am-3pm at the Merrick Center.

Book and Baby Fair

Join your fellow CCS DC Chapter members, friends and families for this fun Saturday dedicated to books and babies! Volunteers are needed to host book and baby equipment drives, transport items to the Center, provide food and snacks, and help community members on the day of the Fair.

Time commitment: Saturday, April 25th from 9am-3pm. Commitment may vary depending if volunteer works on preparation or day of activities.
